About the Role

The “Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer – UAE Region” reports to the SVP & MD UAE Region and is responsible for driving profitable growth of the Logistics Services. The role is responsible for implementing and leading the UAE Region’s logistics services that include but are not limited to warehousing, intermodal rail, road and barge services, bar coding, packing, covering air, land and sea transportation across the UAE. These services will complement the core ports and terminals business by creating value added services and enabling greater efficiencies in time and cost.

The “Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer – UAE Region” will set the regional strategy derived from the overarching group’s vision and business strategy to define targets and plans for Logistics Services in the UAE and works in collaboration with other regions to deliver the group’s vision and business strategy. The Logistics Services COO – UAE Region will be responsible for identifying future business growth opportunities and lead setting up of its logistic services operations.

The “Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer – UAE Region” is in charge of the operating excellence of related logistics services and offerings. The role drives operations and costs optimisation initiatives and ensure compliance with global standard operational procedures that are in place across all logistic services business units.

The “Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer – UAE Region” oversees identification, development and implementation of new/upgraded logistics-related services and solutions which facilitates DP World’s growth in the logistics services area, and synergises other business divisions of the DPW Group in terms of throughput and profitability.

The role is accountable for setting-up new businesses and major projects from an operations and project management perspective.

The “Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer – UAE Region” collaborates with Senior Management to ensure overall value is realised and optimised across the region.

 

Experience & Qualification

 Business planning

  • Recommend key Logistics Services related investments to SVP & MD UAE Region, in coordination with the Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer and “Business Development & Planning” department
  • Assess the business opportunity, competitor landscape, macro-economic conditions and recommend key logistic services related investments for the region
  • Develop and execute a business plan to successfully set-up logistic services operations
  • Coordinate with SVP & MD UAE Region and the Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer to address the business strategy
  • Define targets and plans to optimise Logistics Services portfolio and assets value and management from both operations perspective and complementary value to other business divisions
  • Allocate resources for Logistics Services division need

Operations excellence

  • Set-up logistic services operations with focus on effective transportation and storage of goods including services and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption
  • Ensure all relevant business units are set up and made effective to meet and exceed the plans that have been agreed with the SVP & MD UAE Region and the Logistics Services Chief Operating Officer from an operations perspective
  • Enforce established operating procedures ensuring compliance to global standard operating procedures of the Logistics Services division
  • Drive operational improvements and cost optimisation initiatives in Logistics Services
  • Monitor operational performance of business unit against set targets

Services and solutions development

  • Ensure that the division develops proximity to business operations in order to identify and develop solutions and services accordingly to support the UAE region’s growth, effectiveness and efficiency
  • Design differentiated logistic services and solutions, that leverage UAE Region’s capabilities and is seamlessly integrated with other business areas – Ports and Terminals, Industrial Parks and Economic Zones and Trade Solutions (including freight forwarding, river barging, online services and others)
  • Support collaboration and partnership between divisions, regions and other business units to implement new/optimised solutions and services
  • Ensure support to Commercial teams in customisation of offerings and solutions to respective markets and customers
  • Align and coordinate with Innovation department to address customer and business need

Development and project management

  • Ensure set-up of operations and provision of on-site operational support services for the development of new projects / services
  • Oversee development and implementation of IT/OT applications (useable on smart phone and tablets) for support and provide real time updates to customers

General

  • Accountable for mentoring and leading an engaged team, providing direction and promoting collaboration while ensuring they are enabled to carry out the goals and objectives of the business
  • Measure and monitor performance against critical criteria, policy and guidelines established by DP World
  • Align with Corporate Services Officer on SLAs
  • Promote and demonstrate positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s values and culture
  • Ensure that the highest levels of safety are applied in all activities
  • Understand and adhere to DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies
  • Ensure that the Logistics Services division adhere to DP World standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 
Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor and / or Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant discipline preferred (e.g. Logistics, Ports, Trade, Business)
  • At least 15 years’ experience with 5 in an executive level position, such as general manager or vice president
  • Extensive experience in Logistics Services and preferably 3rd Party Logistics at a senior executive level (including areas such as warehousing, intermodal rail, road and barge services, multi country consolidation, bar coding, packing, freight forwarding, river barging, online logistics services and air, land and sea transportation)
  • Proven track record in successfully developing and executing global/regional strategic plans
  • Solid working knowledge of budgeting, business development and strategic planning
  • Proven experience driving cost optimisation and service operational excellence
  • Knowledge and practical implementation of latest technology advancements for solution enablement
  • Project management experience and competence in leading cross functional projects
  • Superior level of cultural intelligence and knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, negotiation, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams enabling positive team dynamics, effective performance management and engagement

DP WORLD IMPERSONATED IN A RECRUITING SCAM

Dubai, UAE :DP World, Ltd. (DP World) alerts job applicants and the public about a fraudulent scheme in which DP World has been impersonated.

The scammers fraudulently:
  • Impersonate DP World;
  • Impersonate DP World employees;
  • Conduct “job interviews” via text message, telephone, e-mail, and/or instant message (including Google Hangout) communications for work-from-home positions;
  • “Hire” employees to join DP World;
  • Provide the “employees” with funds to buy home-office equipment and pay DP World “vendors” via fraudulent checks and money orders; and
  • Instruct the “employees” via e-mail, text message, telephone, or instant message to deposit the checks into their personal bank accounts and wire or cash transfer some portion of the funds to “vendors,” which are actually the scammers.
DP World informs job applicants and the public that:
  • DP World is not expanding its operations in the United States in the next 3-6 months (as the scammers allege);
  • DP World’s operations in the United States are currently limited to Charlotte, North Carolina and are not expanding to any other locations for the foreseeable future;
  • DP World does not solicit potential employees via text message or instant messaging;
  • DP World does not interview employees by text message, e-mail, or instant messaging (including Google Hangouts);
  • DP World does not issue payment to its employees, prospective or otherwise, via paper check or money order;
  • DP World does not require employees to buy their own office equipment or personally pay vendors; and
  • The scammers have fraudulently used the name of DP World and its employees without authority and for malicious purposes.

One of the red flags that distinguishes a false communication from a legitimate DP World communication is the poor grammatical use of the English language, which is apparent in conversations with the scammers. Another red flag is the method of communication as DP World does not use commercially-available e-mail providers. No legitimate DP World communication would come from a common, publicly-available email service like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or Microsoft Outlook.

Further, false communications can also be identified by the tasks requested by the scammers. DP World does not request that its employees pay vendors personally, whether from their own funds or from funds provided by DP World. Likewise, DP World would never ask an employee to cash a check or money order and then make a deposit into a vendor’s account.

Contacted individuals should not respond to any communication regarding the scam, and under no circumstances should any individual deposit any checks, money orders, or other payments from the scammers into their bank accounts. If such funds are for some reason deposited, no payments should be made from those funds for at least seven (7) days after the funds are deposited to ensure the individual’s bank has accepted the check, money order, or other payment.
