Middle East & Africa Region:

DP World operates marine terminals within the Middle East & Africa Region (MEA Region): Doraleh (Djibouti), Dakar (Senegal), Djazair (Algiers), Djen Djen (Algiers), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Maputo (Mozambique), Kigali (Rwanda), Duhok (Kurdistan) and Sokhna (Egypt).

This role is based in MEA Regional office in Dubai where the Senior Vice president and the regional departments including Finance, Commercial, Business Development, Operations Efficiency, Engineering, Health, Safety & Environment and HC & Sustainability are located.

 

About the Role Within the broader scope of the Company values and vision-mission statement, ensure with the different Business units the optimum customer service and cost standards that meet both customer expectations and budget requirements. Lead and provide strategic direction to achieve Operational, Technical and HSE performance standards for all MEA businesses.
Key Accountabilities
    • Develop and implement the needed strategies in the Operations, Technical, HSE and IT to improve where necessary the overall productivity and equipment efficiency levels in all BU as per contracted performance of the clients and competitor/market expectation.
    • Ensures that each BU has a detailed planes that are being executed to maximize productivity and operational efficiency in handling containers and different types of G&B cargo through efficient use of resources including machinery, equipment, warehouses, yard space, gate operation, application of innovative technology, economic use of financial and manpower resources.
    • Continuously drive innovation and automation with an objective to increase overall customer experience, increase productivity and safety and reduce cost.
    • Lead people and teams into value adding management thinking over and above functional operational decision taking.
    • Works with close coordination with Terminal COOs, CEO’s and with all stakeholders in the development of Terminal’s operational, maintenance, HSE and IT budgets and budget forecasts.
    • Support Terminals in developing the required people capabilities for areas under his/her responsibility and participate in the selection, evaluation, development and talent management processes.
    • Conduct and maintain continuous process improvement and innovation culture in all terminals.
    • Ensures the development and monitoring though relevant KPI’s of the overall operational performance at each BU to identify performance gaps early in the lifecycle and provide guidance to implement early corrections.
    • Support the evaluation, planning, specification and training requirements for new and upgrading of terminals.
    • Review and approve all capital spending in MEA related to new capex in infrastructure and equipment with view to optimize capital spending and opex.
    • Support assessment, decision and implementation of TOS deployment in MEA and serve as regional representative to Zodiac development team.
    • Provide insight and guidance to safety and security strategic plans as a visible leader delivering a continuous fatality free workplace and striving to implement a zero harm working environment with a clear focus on delivering and managing lead safety indicators
    • Conduct regular reviews of security plans in each operating terminal to ensure they exceed company standards and that ISO28000 policies and standards are fully maintained in each terminal and liaise with HO security on all security initiatives.
    • Liaise with regional commercial director to ensure customer satisfaction and that all MEA terminals are delivering the contractual performance agreements with our clients. Ensures that all COO and their operational staff are aware of customer issues and constantly liaise with their commercial departments to resolve these issues.
    • Ensures that overall operational KPI’s are aligned with the broader customer expectations to enhance the customer experience.
    • Develop and implement the strategic plan to standardize and harmonize MEA overall operational standards and customer interfaces to raise our terminal standards to the highest excellence levels.
    • Lead the implementation of the new project in the region and ensures the highest DPW operational standards are implemented.
    • Ensures the development and proper update of the KPI’s on both BU and regional level. Ensures that the action plans are developed and delivered to overcome any deviations.
    • Ensures that structured and regular performance reviews are conducted with all BU’s and results and actions are shared with the MEA leadership team.
      
Qualifications & Role Compensation Details

Qualifications: 

In order to give credible support to the organization and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Extensive container terminal experience with a minimum of 15+ years of diverse port operations experience with demonstrated knowledge of all port operations functions and ability to create value through innovative continuous process improvement.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of the Terminal operational aspects including P/L, Commercial, Human Capital,…etc
  • Language skills and multicultural experience that are directly applicable in the region.
  • Experience with employee relations
  • A good current network within the industry;
  • The ability to oversee implementation of operational strategic plans and lead processes to identify critical issues;
  • Demonstrable ability to think conceptually and is highly influential at senior and operational levels within an industrial setting;
  • The aptitude to translate concepts into workable plans and drives their implementation in the business;
  • A comprehensive understand of Shipping Lines/Rail/Haulage and Forwarding operations;
  • The ability to Identify and manage relationships with stakeholders e.g. landlord, shareholders, Port Corporation, industry bodies and other influencers
  • Formal training in Occupational Health & Safety is preferable.

DP WORLD IMPERSONATED IN A RECRUITING SCAM

Dubai, UAE :DP World, Ltd. (DP World) alerts job applicants and the public about a fraudulent scheme in which DP World has been impersonated.

The scammers fraudulently:
  • Impersonate DP World;
  • Impersonate DP World employees;
  • Conduct “job interviews” via text message, telephone, e-mail, and/or instant message (including Google Hangout) communications for work-from-home positions;
  • “Hire” employees to join DP World;
  • Provide the “employees” with funds to buy home-office equipment and pay DP World “vendors” via fraudulent checks and money orders; and
  • Instruct the “employees” via e-mail, text message, telephone, or instant message to deposit the checks into their personal bank accounts and wire or cash transfer some portion of the funds to “vendors,” which are actually the scammers.
DP World informs job applicants and the public that:
  • DP World is not expanding its operations in the United States in the next 3-6 months (as the scammers allege);
  • DP World’s operations in the United States are currently limited to Charlotte, North Carolina and are not expanding to any other locations for the foreseeable future;
  • DP World does not solicit potential employees via text message or instant messaging;
  • DP World does not interview employees by text message, e-mail, or instant messaging (including Google Hangouts);
  • DP World does not issue payment to its employees, prospective or otherwise, via paper check or money order;
  • DP World does not require employees to buy their own office equipment or personally pay vendors; and
  • The scammers have fraudulently used the name of DP World and its employees without authority and for malicious purposes.

One of the red flags that distinguishes a false communication from a legitimate DP World communication is the poor grammatical use of the English language, which is apparent in conversations with the scammers. Another red flag is the method of communication as DP World does not use commercially-available e-mail providers. No legitimate DP World communication would come from a common, publicly-available email service like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or Microsoft Outlook.

Further, false communications can also be identified by the tasks requested by the scammers. DP World does not request that its employees pay vendors personally, whether from their own funds or from funds provided by DP World. Likewise, DP World would never ask an employee to cash a check or money order and then make a deposit into a vendor’s account.

Contacted individuals should not respond to any communication regarding the scam, and under no circumstances should any individual deposit any checks, money orders, or other payments from the scammers into their bank accounts. If such funds are for some reason deposited, no payments should be made from those funds for at least seven (7) days after the funds are deposited to ensure the individual’s bank has accepted the check, money order, or other payment.
