About the Role

This position reports to Director, DP World Institute and the purpose of the position is to develop and deliver DP World Institute programmes to DP World employees and external participants, in a variety of locations, in line with the annual calendar and as may be instructed from time to time. Develop and implement operations competencies in line with the DP World competency model and job family framework. Act in an advisory role to Business Units in developing and optimising their operational training functionality. Follow established customer relationship model as a member of the DP World Institute team, liaising and advising regions on relevant development solutions thereby ensuring continuous use of our services.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with senior management at BU level to understand their strategic objectives, appreciate the risks and factors that influence effective operational performance (labour relations, culture, management effectiveness, supervision, investment etc.) in order to develop the most effective training solutions for that BU
  • Develop or adapt programs, as requested by the Director, DP World Institute.
  • Deliver programs in accordance with adult learning principles and DP World Institute processes and practices, and based on thorough understanding of the materials and underpinning philosophies and principles.
  • Together with the Director, DP World Institute, develop and deliver open learning programmes to third party participants, through online learning, and via face-to-face workshops, either directly, or via third-party learning institutions.
  • Support the development of links with third-party learning institutions, the marketing of the DPW Institute as a commercialised learning provider, and alignment of curriculum design and learning content to accreditation body requirements.
  • Support the application of learning through workplace projects, ensuring timely completion, and the engagement of local management in supporting continued development and application of new learning and skills.
  • Provide a positive role model to participants through own preparation, conduct and performance before, during and after programs.
  • Contribute to the improvement of DP World Institute programs, materials and delivery processes, and, where appropriate, the identification and acquisition of complementary materials and programs from external providers.
  • Act as an adviser to the business on learning and development matters, as and when requested by it. 
  • Support the development of key operational competencies, together with the Director, DP World Institute and in conjunction with Global Operations.
  • Support business units in the analysis and development of training functions and capabilities, aligned to DPW competency standards and the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Ensure operations programmes are tailored to suit the above competencies and send a single unified message to the business.  
  • Provide accurate and timely feedback to all attendees and their managers.
  • Undertake and/or ensure the appropriate follow-up actions and reporting processes are followed in respect of all participants in order to justify the learning and ensure value is added to the business.
Experience & Qualification

In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

 

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject.
  • Previous experience in the delivery Port Operations or Maritime Logistics learning programmes at an appropriate level and experienced and familiar with current delivery mechanisms, such as eLearning, virtual classrooms and Learning Management Systems
  • Detailed understanding of port and terminal operations, including systems approach, performance measurement and improvement, equipment operations, and current developments in automation and systems development.
  • Understanding and experience in learning facilitation (as distinct from teaching) based on adult learning principles.
  • Ability to understand cultural sensitivities and the impact this can have in a multi-cultural environment.

Desirable

  • An understanding of the structure and function of logistics operations, including landside transportation, warehousing, freight-forwarding and customs clearance procedures.
  • Current or recent managerial experience in a terminal operations or logistics environment.
  • Experience of delivering training in varied geographical regions and cultures.
  • Previous experience of the wider maritime industry or supply chain.
  • Experience of working in a commercialised learning environment, including curriculum development and budget management.

DP WORLD IMPERSONATED IN A RECRUITING SCAM

Dubai, UAE :DP World, Ltd. (DP World) alerts job applicants and the public about a fraudulent scheme in which DP World has been impersonated.

The scammers fraudulently:
  • Impersonate DP World;
  • Impersonate DP World employees;
  • Conduct “job interviews” via text message, telephone, e-mail, and/or instant message (including Google Hangout) communications for work-from-home positions;
  • “Hire” employees to join DP World;
  • Provide the “employees” with funds to buy home-office equipment and pay DP World “vendors” via fraudulent checks and money orders; and
  • Instruct the “employees” via e-mail, text message, telephone, or instant message to deposit the checks into their personal bank accounts and wire or cash transfer some portion of the funds to “vendors,” which are actually the scammers.
DP World informs job applicants and the public that:
  • DP World is not expanding its operations in the United States in the next 3-6 months (as the scammers allege);
  • DP World’s operations in the United States are currently limited to Charlotte, North Carolina and are not expanding to any other locations for the foreseeable future;
  • DP World does not solicit potential employees via text message or instant messaging;
  • DP World does not interview employees by text message, e-mail, or instant messaging (including Google Hangouts);
  • DP World does not issue payment to its employees, prospective or otherwise, via paper check or money order;
  • DP World does not require employees to buy their own office equipment or personally pay vendors; and
  • The scammers have fraudulently used the name of DP World and its employees without authority and for malicious purposes.

One of the red flags that distinguishes a false communication from a legitimate DP World communication is the poor grammatical use of the English language, which is apparent in conversations with the scammers. Another red flag is the method of communication as DP World does not use commercially-available e-mail providers. No legitimate DP World communication would come from a common, publicly-available email service like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or Microsoft Outlook.

Further, false communications can also be identified by the tasks requested by the scammers. DP World does not request that its employees pay vendors personally, whether from their own funds or from funds provided by DP World. Likewise, DP World would never ask an employee to cash a check or money order and then make a deposit into a vendor’s account.

Contacted individuals should not respond to any communication regarding the scam, and under no circumstances should any individual deposit any checks, money orders, or other payments from the scammers into their bank accounts. If such funds are for some reason deposited, no payments should be made from those funds for at least seven (7) days after the funds are deposited to ensure the individual’s bank has accepted the check, money order, or other payment.
