About the Role:
Reporting to the Operations Superintendant, this key role is responsible for the overseeing the operations of the shift which includes planning, coordinating and controlling the stevedoring operations to achieve optimum delivery of business outcomes. You must be able to demonstrate previous experience in managing a 24/7 shift operation, dealing with competing priorities and still achieving successful business outcomes with a focus on safety.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Plan, organise and manage the stevedoring operations in a safe, effective and timely manner;
- Ensure compliance of quality standards and operating procedures;
- Lead, direct and motivate employees to perform their functions in accordance to operational requirements and safety standards;
- Ensure compliance to all statutory obligations and Company policies relating to HR and OHS&E;
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external clients and key stakeholders;
- Maintain security requirements on site at all times;
- Manage individual employee performance including RTW, performance management and training on shift as well as in conjunction with the Operations Superintendant when required.
Experience and Qualifications:
In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and qualifications:
Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary or diploma qualification in transport, logistics, maritime or similar industry sector is highly desirable
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience and/or knowledge in transport / maritime / stevedoring operation
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity in a similar or like industry
- Ability to understand and apply Awards/Workplace Agreements
- Working knowledge of OHS&E obligations and responsibilities
- Intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Office applications and previous use of terminal control systems (eg Express, SPARCS, Microster) is highly advantageous
- Proven customer service orientation and demonstrated ability to develop, foster and build rapport at all levels
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of people
- Proven capability to manage and prioritise a challenging workload and competing priorities
- Ability to work shift work and the hours necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role
