With a pipeline of expansion and development projects in key growth markets, including India, China and the Middle East, capacity is expected to rise to around 95 million TEU by 2020, in line with market demand.

About the Role:

This position reports to General Manager - DP World Jeddah and the main purpose of the role is  to work closely with the GM to achieve operational excellence across all areas of the terminal operation and ensure a world class service delivery at all times.  Also, to develop the overall commercial strategy, define contracts, tariffs and promote activities like marketing, customer service, and public relations.

 Key accountabilities will include:

  • Responsible for all matters relating to the efficient and safe utilization of terminal facilities, equipment and operations manpower to achieve optimum container throughput as efficiently as possible.
  • Lead and motivate the Operations Team to ensure levels of service meet or exceed customers' expectations and that all departments have a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements and liaise with Port and Local Authorities in this respect as required.
  • Liaise with the senior management of Shipping Lines and their Agents to understand their requirements and work closely with them to serve their needs.
  • Continually review, benchmark, plan and implement operational strategies to ensure that the Terminal develops and grows profitably.
  • Responsible for achieving all budget requirements and recommending investments.
  • Establish and ensure the implementation of tariff and contract negotiation policies which will achieve the profitability objectives.
  • Direct and control the commercial targets and objectives to ensure achievement.
  • Direct the formulation and implementation of a commercial policies to achieve its objectives in relation to services, markets, communication and media efforts.
  • Ensure that documentation related to consignee / shipper related documents is managed and executed properly through the system.
  • Ensure accurate invoicing is done in line with port defined tariffs.
  • Resolve any conflict with liners, shippers or consignees.
  • Ensure proper focus on business development, marketing of the port and customer service:
    • Key account management - Maintain relationships with existing key customers to ensure ongoing satisfaction and maximize business potential
    • Handle enquiries and prepare quotations - Receive, respond and follow up on enquiries to ensure maximum conversion to business
    • Client servicing - Maintain relationships with all existing clients to maximize account value and ensure build customer loyalty
    • Contract design - Structure terms and conditions of contract
  • Understand cost of service (total cost of managing per TEU), targeted EBIDTA. Determine target volumes and ascertain tariff rates.
  • Maintain close communication with agents, freight forwarders, custom clearance agents to understand future trends and customer requirements.
  • Ensure accurate management and collection of cash in close coordination with Finance.
  • Monitor and analyze traffic volumes through reports prepared by Business Analyst. Examine historic data - line wise trade volumes and tariff rates to define future action points. Analyze line wise operations productivity data.
  • Conduct analysis with Business Analyst to understand customer profitability - based on contract terms, type of service, volumes, etc.
  • Closely coordinate with operations to identify measures with focus on customer objectives and improvement in operations productivity.
  • Identify and develop the department's technology and training requirements.
  • Plan and monitor internal training programs for department personnel.
  • Establish and implement Performance Testing Standards and Best Practices for Commercial department.
  • Plan, monitor and analyse MIS reports.
  • Establish and maintain performance criteria (KPIs) in line with safety, productivity, budget etc.
  • Perform periodical scheduled performance review with reporting personnel
  • Leading by example by acting as a safety role model.
  • Being highly visible in the workplace.
  • Accepting ultimate accountability.
  • Actively engaging in S&E improvements.
Experience & Qualifications:

In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree from a recognized university is a prerequisite
  • 12-18 years of container operations management experience in senior roles and across all functions
  • Thorough knowledge of every aspect of Container Terminal Operations and excellent overall industry experience.
  • Have previously held the position of Operations Manager in a reasonably large Terminal.
  • Experience in start-ups or expansion projects are of particular interest.
  • Must be structured, organised and proactive with proven skills & experience as a change manager
  • Action oriented manager with high energy levels, initiative and a strong collaborative approach to doing business
  • Excellent communication skills in English and able to manage effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Experience in Commercial & Business development in the container terminal industry
  • Customer focused approach
  • Sound understanding of port productivity measures and implications on tariffs
  • Understanding of financial parameters like Operating Profit, Contribution, Gross margins and its implications on port business
  • Decision making and analytical ability
  • Computer operating skills
  • Superior communication skills including strong negotiation skills

The scammers fraudulently:
  • Impersonate DP World;
  • Impersonate DP World employees;
  • Conduct “job interviews” via text message, telephone, e-mail, and/or instant message (including Google Hangout) communications for work-from-home positions;
  • “Hire” employees to join DP World;
  • Provide the “employees” with funds to buy home-office equipment and pay DP World “vendors” via fraudulent checks and money orders; and
  • Instruct the “employees” via e-mail, text message, telephone, or instant message to deposit the checks into their personal bank accounts and wire or cash transfer some portion of the funds to “vendors,” which are actually the scammers.
DP World informs job applicants and the public that:
  • DP World is not expanding its operations in the United States in the next 3-6 months (as the scammers allege);
  • DP World’s operations in the United States are currently limited to Charlotte, North Carolina and are not expanding to any other locations for the foreseeable future;
  • DP World does not solicit potential employees via text message or instant messaging;
  • DP World does not interview employees by text message, e-mail, or instant messaging (including Google Hangouts);
  • DP World does not issue payment to its employees, prospective or otherwise, via paper check or money order;
  • DP World does not require employees to buy their own office equipment or personally pay vendors; and
  • The scammers have fraudulently used the name of DP World and its employees without authority and for malicious purposes.

One of the red flags that distinguishes a false communication from a legitimate DP World communication is the poor grammatical use of the English language, which is apparent in conversations with the scammers. Another red flag is the method of communication as DP World does not use commercially-available e-mail providers. No legitimate DP World communication would come from a common, publicly-available email service like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or Microsoft Outlook.

Further, false communications can also be identified by the tasks requested by the scammers. DP World does not request that its employees pay vendors personally, whether from their own funds or from funds provided by DP World. Likewise, DP World would never ask an employee to cash a check or money order and then make a deposit into a vendor’s account.

Contacted individuals should not respond to any communication regarding the scam, and under no circumstances should any individual deposit any checks, money orders, or other payments from the scammers into their bank accounts. If such funds are for some reason deposited, no payments should be made from those funds for at least seven (7) days after the funds are deposited to ensure the individual’s bank has accepted the check, money order, or other payment.
