About the Business:

DP World operates more than 60 terminals across six continents, with container handling generating around 80% of its revenue.  In addition, the company currently has 10 new developments and major expansions underway in 10 countries. 

DP World aims to enhance customers' supply chain efficiency by effectively managing container, bulk and other terminal cargo.  Its dedicated, experienced and professional team of nearly 30,000 people serves customers in some of the most dynamic economies in the world.

In 2010, DP World handled nearly 50 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) across its portfolio from the Americas to Asia. With a pipeline of expansion and development projects in key growth markets, including India, China and the Middle East, capacity is expected to rise to around 95 million TEU by 2020, in line with market demand.

About the Role:

The General Manager – DP World Callao is the senior executive managing the day to day operation of a 1m+ TEU terminal with over 700 employees based in Lima, Peru. The position reports to Senior Vice President and Managing Director -DP World, Americas. DP World Callao SRL is a wholly owned terminal operating company whose operating rights were granted through a concession in 2006. Callao has just completed its first full calendar year of operation after its inauguration in September 2010. The physical infrastructure includes 650m of berth with 6 quay cranes and supported by 18 RTG.

Key accountabilities will include: 

  • Lead the physical development, maintenance and operation of the terminal and all infrastructure including managing all third parties and representing the best interest of DP World Callao in line with budget and legal requirements
  • Create and maintain cross functional lines of reporting into Regional and Corporate headquarters
  • Represent the company externally with all key stakeholders including government and statutory / regulatory bodies to protect the company’s interests and assets with an aim to maximize value
  • Proactively maintain ongoing relationships with customers and business partners in line with regional policy and DP World’s standards of customer service
  • Take lead accountability for the safe and secure operation of the terminal protecting employee and employer interests to the highest standards and legal requirements
  • Provide regular, structured progress reports to the Regional Director
  • Develop, propose and implement annual budget and business plans taking corrective actions as necessary to agreed cost, time and quality standards
  • Lead, motivate, and develop employees ensuring the necessary resources are available to deliver annual plans
  • Oversee the appointment of third party contractors, and the procurement of equipment and consumables, working with in-company experts, to ensure the availability of all ‘physical’ resources on time and at minimum cost
  • Liaise internally with all necessary departments to ensure the port is developed and operated in line with DP World standards and established best practice
  • Contribute to the wider development of managing a port business by sharing learning and initiatives both regionally and globally through internal channels
Experience & Qualifications:

In order to support to the organisation and achieve success in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and qualifications: 

  • At least 6 years of progressive senior management roles, including previous general manager experience,  in container terminals with throughput in excess of 400,000 TEU per year
  • Management of all key stakeholder relationships including shareholders and external government agencies
  • Advanced knowledge of terminal safety and security procedures and protocols
  • Proven leadership capability, the confidence to communicate with all levels of management and demonstrated success in dynamic cultural environments
  • Experienced negotiator and a self-starter with the ability to adapt to stressful environments by using a sociable but firm approach, as well as engendering trust and integrity
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish language or commitment to achieve fluency while in the role
