About the Role

The central challenge for the Regional Head of Comms & ER is to transform brand and communications in Europe and Russia into a high performing function that delivers strong results for the DP World business and brand. The need is for integrated internal and external communications programs that support commercial objectives and build key stakeholder engagement with the Brand Purpose. Approaches which are currently tactical, reactive and fragmented across the region must become more strategic, pro-active and consistent. Activities will cover the full spectrum of External Relations, Internal Relations, Media Relations, Digital and Social Media and Content.


Key Accountabilities
  • Strategy. To develop and maintain a Regional Brand & Communications Strategy which expresses the global Brand Purpose for all key stakeholder groups, based on:
  • support for the regional application of the DP World Business Strategy
  • exploitation of all relevant media channels, particularly in digital and social media contexts
  • responsiveness to a rapidly changing business and media environment


  • Planning. To create and manage a 3-year rolling Regional Brand & Communications Plan, which:
    • applies the common DP World Global B&C Planning Framework (introduced in 2019)
    • integrates all business and country levels plans into a coherent whole across the region
    • is approved and supported by both regional business management and the specialist leaders who comprise the HQ Brand and Communications team


  • Implementation. To drive effective and cost-efficient Execution of the B&C Plan, through:
  • close working relationships with regional and local business management, the communications team and other relevant functions (eg Legal etc)
  • building and sustaining relationships with key media representatives throughout the region                
  • selection and management of appropriate external agencies (based on critical skill sets and the capacity to deliver integration across activities and borders)


  • Measurement. To establish and report on a Strategic Dashboard of measurements which :
    • monitor performance against targets/KPIs on key communications objectives
    • track progress against overall brand and business objectives
    • justify investment on the basis of robustly measured outcomes and ROI


  • Tactical Responsiveness. To maintain the ability to respond to unforeseen changes, including :
    • short-term opportunities
    • unforeseen competitive initiatives
    • ‘crisis management’


  • Continuous Improvement. To encourage and nurture a culture of innovation designed to :
    • test and validate new ideas and approaches
    • explore opportunities for enhanced cost-efficiency (‘doing more with less’)
    • expand and strengthen professional skill sets and best practices in brand and communications


  • Compliance. To constantly adhere to and actively promote behaviours which reflect the Brand Purpose while specifically : 
    • maintaining the highest levels of Safety standards
    • complying with Founders Principles, Code of Conduct and Ethical policies and meeting all agreed standards for DP World Brand and Visual Identity, including the Group Communications Policy
    • ensuring compliance with all relevant external legal and regulatory requirements


Qualifications and Experience

In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior consumer facing public relations and/or communications role.
  • Experience of dealing with the media.
  • Experience of digital media platform.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with demonstrable ability in managing and motivating a team, as well as being independent and able to take responsibility for own planning / prioritization.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Experience of managing change. 
  • Degree or equivalent (desirable, not essential) in business/management and/or Communication and Media Studies.
  • Relevant memberships such as Chartered Institute of Public Relations or Institute of Internal Communication (desirable, not essential).
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Excellent impact and influencing skills, able to inspire enthusiasm.
  • Understanding of brand protection and growing value in a brand.
  • Understanding of importance and potential of CRM systems and databases.
  • Understanding of using insights to shape strategic and operational plans.
  • Able to work strategically without close supervision whilst being a key and supportive member of the Senior Management Team.
  • Able to manage a heavy work programme, work to set priorities and achieve against targets.
  • An analytical, numerate and disciplined thinker who has the ability to think complex issues through and produce commercially sound judgments.
  • Able to demonstrate a broad range of professional management, communication and public relations skills.
  • Passion to ensure communication strategies and messages are clear.
  • True passion for Corporate Sustainability and making a difference; able to stay in tune with stakeholder viewpoints.
  • Insight to the business – understanding how CS relates to the business.
